Illinois state law requires each municipality (with a population of 800 or more) to have an audit of its funds and accounts made by an independent accountant in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.
The auditor’s report on the financial position and results of financial operations of the municipality are available to the public and must also be filed with the Illinois Comptroller within 6 months of the fiscal year end.
